Shadows of Wily by Hakuramen Shadows of Wily by Hakuramen
Partner piece to "Legacy of Light": [link]

This is Dr. Wily's legacy: spanning Classic to X to Zero to ZX series. His cast shadow is also meant to form a cackling mad scientist. This was actually drawn around the same time as the previous piece but it took me much later to get around to coloring it. I hope my coloring has improved since then.

There is another version I was coloring where I partially grayscaled Dr. Wily's shadow for a more uniform ominous appearance of his cast shadow, but I was undecided on which was better. I decided the full colors work better here but if you want to see the other version, I can upload it as well.

Able to name all the characters? Comments and critiques are appreciated!

Mega man belongs to Capcom.

Probably Snake Man-- considering I have a soft spot for the MM3 game.

In the end, he made a great hero. That's ironic for an antagonist who planned conquering the world (many times).

Because he created Zero who became one of the staunchest defenders of humanity and reploids alike? An ironic but interesting fate indeed.

Makes you wonder what would happen if Wily actually revealed himself in the X series and that X is actually an upgraded and rebuilt version of Mega Man. I know the last part's just my personal preference, but it would make a compelling story that lasts hundreds of years. Besides, despite what TVTROPES.com says about X's name, I don't think it would make much sense if Light named his final "child" after an earlier "sibling".

I actually have an idea for a game where Wily makes an actual, antagonistic appearance in the X series with a destructive and manipulative plan to get Zero on his side and to have his ultimate revenge on Light and his creations by not only conquering the world, but by unleashing a virus that would specifically target X's physical and mental designs on a worldwide scale. And considering that the Reploids are X's proverbial descendants, you can expect the results. Honestly, I think Light and Wily both have the greatest legacy in video game history. Partly because I can't think of anyone else with an equal or greater legacy and partly because they're both responsible for the events surrounding the main series. Their conflict between each other was the story for the originals, their greatest creations were the forebears of an even more advanced race of sentient machines and a destructive archetype of that race. The great devastation and strong feelings of prejudice made Zero and ZX write themselves.

Yeah, that does sound good. Although, I've come to think that Thomas' resetting plan may involve time traveling to a point when X and Zero were still in capsules so he can destroy them. No Reploids, no maverick virus, no wars.

Well, dod u know that based Wily off of Albert Einstein. Well, his name is Albert Wily and he wanted to destroy the world and Einstein wanted America to make more Atomic bombs.

I was focusing more on the home console robot masters and characters over the handheld ones. Even then, there was more than enough to handle.

I'm still confused of whether isoc or serges is wily in the x series him being serges would make much more sense but at the same time they both provide evidence of them both being wily

I think it was meant to be ambiguous or implied, but I don't remember what canon says was truly related to Dr. Wily. If nothing else, there IS the Maverick Virus which essentially originates from Dr. Wily.

Because Sigma was infected by the very same Maverick Virus that Wily created in Zero-- so Wily's influence is still carried through him.

I have a real softspot for Dr Wily based artwork, and I'm not entirely sure why. I have always, ALWAYS loved the retro Robot Master designs (mainly 1 to 4, but also individual designs from 7 onwards. Oh, and I love most of the designs for 9 and 10...), so the silhouettes of them were great to see. Love the fact I can individually make out Metal Man, Air Man, Gemini Man and a few other favourites...

Anyway, you've done a great job on the slouched, cartoonish proportions of Wily whilst not making him look much less sinister. It's a fine line between mad genius and just looking a little ridiculous when portraying Dr Wily. The "Legacy" elements you've chosed for his shadow are really smartly laid out as a little history of his significance to the series.

Personal fave eyecatching element is probably the Yellow Devil :)

There is an air of sinister or wiliness... about Dr. Wily; he's meant to look hunched over, deliberating, plotting, conniving. Haha. All the silhouetted robot masters are very much Dr. Wily's creations dating from MM1-MM10-- though not all could be represented.

And of course I had to include the Yellow Devil. He's an infamous boss/wall in MM1 and recurring boss in not only the Classic series-- but most of the rest.

Yep. I really enjoyed drawing these two pictures and contrasting between them-- since they started out as close partners but deviated off different paths-- and yet, their legacies are tied so very much together. Also arguable whose legacies stretched further. :p

Hmm, true. They are foils for each other and without the other, their entire legacies would have been vastly different, or significantly shorter. I do like it best when their final creations came together as partners: Zero and X-- and later when X imparts his will and duty to Zero post MMZ3.

Yep, I didn't make that clear at all XD woops. Yeah I meant Dr. Light and wily. I see it in real life too so it's kinda neat :) It's a really interesting theme I like to think about. Trained in the same classes, same league and then because of very different motivations, people split off to do their own things even when their talents are so similar.

AT least you didn't put the Battle Network side of him XD

Very nice I love how it seems that Wily is the cause of all disaster on the future. Then again it's always Wily behind it all right?

Also I love how you still decided to add a Metool in a corner there. XD

Well Battle Network is rather a spinoff universe, no? It it doesn't have its roots/origins in the same man. Ironically, Wily may be the root of most of the disaster in the future, but his creations are also humanity's savior: in the form of Zero-- MMZ4 especially.

Also, I'm glad how you noticed the metool. It's such a classic and recurring minor enemy that I had to include it peeking in.
