Phantasy Star's Legacy by Hakuramen Phantasy Star's Legacy by Hakuramen
Phantasy Star Online art!
Original linework here: [link]

Instead of drawing new things, I finally got around to coloring this picture. Suffice to say, this was a beast to color, but I'm more or less happy with the way it turned out. Now with colors, it should be more recognizable to see the transition of PSO characters to their PSO2 counterparts.

[Minor edits: digitally extended the canvas size to give the left more breathing room-- as the hunters leap towards the white unknown. Also created a glow effect surrounding the hunters-- based on official PSO2 art I saw.

Lastly, added title logo and PSO 10th anniversary to fill in the empty space. If the latter is an issue, I'll remove it.]

Time: ~12 hrs digital.

Enjoy! Comments and critiques are very much appreciated! Fullview to see detail, if you'd like.

Artwork belongs to me.
Phantasy Star Online and PSO2 belong to Sega.

SEGA has made no announcement about US release other than it's indefinitely delayed. Ironically, I heard that PSO2 is being released in Southeast Asia.... with English language supported, except it's IP regionlocking anyone outside of SE Asia.

This is just too awesome.
I've been a big fan of PSO since about 2002, and now I'm trying my hardest to get a new computer just so I can play this when it comes to the states.

Agreed! I became a big fan of PSO since I played it in the GCN days, and I'm still patiently waiting for SEGA to release PSO2 here...

This is a cool piece of art! I like the transition between the old style and the new style of PSO2, I definitely caught that was your intention right away. Your coloring is superb and continues to improve.

Glad you like the PSO art! It is most definitely a tribute to both PSO games, and I paid careful attention to making the transition recognizable. Similarly, I feel like PSO2 is more successful in keeping the memories of the original PSO intact-- something I felt was missing in PSU.

All things said, it's been a while since either of us have played PSO, haha. Interested in PSO2? I am quite a bit.

I am interested in PSO2 quite a bit! I really hope it brings back the memories of PSO and stands alone as a good game. I definitely plan on giving it a shot when it comes out.

I just absolutely adore this piece. It captures and conveyes the style I loved about PSO so very much and also has enough tweaks to invoke the art feel of PSO2 from what little we've seen so far. The sense of motion/flow/transition via the little breakaway bits is very well done.

Anyways, I am slowly getting caught up with messages here. This is a start - expect a lot more comments sooooon!

Haha, thanks. I'm glad you like this PSO/PSO2 art! It's been a while since I've drawn PSO art but it's still ever so fun. Also, SEGA has a PSO2 Character Creation demo up for download. You might want to give it a try! Just check out the news update at the PSO-world: [link]

Character creation will also provide excellent reference for future art too.

Sick!! This looks very dynamic. And look at all that detail, with those squarish thingies that look like their gears are materializing from the digital world or something. Another epic kickass masterpiece! Expected nothing less from you of course.

The opening sequence where the HUmar leaps into the portal and digitally transports to the earthen world was certainly an inspiration. Plus, it's just a badass trailer. Digital materializing is an apt phrase for it.

Thanks for all the comments again! This is probably my favorite piece so far, and one I thoroughly enjoyed coloring. :)

PSO: Blue Burst

Puns aside, I'm glad you enjoy this picture: bursting into action is something I was aiming for with this picture-- both in art style and in more vivid coloring. Thanks for the comment!

PSO2 art is still rare-- seeing how the game isn't even out yet. But I wanted to get ahead here, and I'm excited for PSO2. Design homage to PSO1 characters? Free to play? PC and PSVita (questionable about iOS and Android compatibility though...)? I'd very much like to get into the PSO games again.

Thanks for the comment! :)
